The Sociology Department at UCSC is a social justice-oriented community of faculty, staff, and graduate students. Staff members in the department have received awards for their leadership and creative problem solving skills. Meanwhile, our graduate students are an integral part of our research and teaching work who publish in high-profile journals and are highly sought after for academic appointments post-graduation.
Our faculty carry out pathbreaking, field-building research that has been impactful both inside the academy and beyond. They earn prestigious fellowships, grants, and prizes and share their research through top academic journals and presses and through media coverage in various outlets.
